Vitor Pereira could walk away from Wolves following their poor start to the Premier League season.

That’s according to former Southampton and England star Matt Le Tissier, who exclusively shared his opinion with Football Insider.

After being thrashed 4-0 by Manchester City in the opening weekend of the Premier League season, Wolves lost 1-0 to Bournemouth on Saturday, 23 August.

Marcus Tavernier’s fourth-minute strike proved enough to inflict back-to-back defeats on Pereira’s men, who face West Ham in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday, 26 August.

Amid their poor start to the Premier League season, Wolves have endured a tough summer transfer window, losing former star player Matheus Cunha to Manchester United.

Meanwhile, Nelson Semedo left Pereira’s side to join Turkish Super Lig outfit Fenerbahce on a free transfer.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider about Pereira’s situation, Le Tissier said: “Vitor Pereira at Wolves.

It’s always difficult when you don’t know the exact state of play with regards to the financial fair play stuff.

“But a lack of investment might just mean Vitor Pereira might just go ‘You know what, you’ve not backed me.

I can’t do a job here.’

“You might think it’s easier to walk away than to sit there and wait for the sack and it’s going to be interesting.”

Football Insider verdict

Pereira did a good job at Wolves last term, steering the West Midlands club to a 16th-place finish, having previously encountered relegation worries.

Thanks to the 57-year-old’s stewardship, the Molineux club began the new season as a Premier League outfit.

However, as outlined by Le Tissier, Pereira has not received heavy backing in the summer transfer market, despite losing both Semedo and Cunha.

Furthermore, Newcastle United are interested in Jorgen Strand Larsen, which could hand Wolves a further blow in the transfer window.

The striker was a key asset for Pereira’s men last season, notching 14 goals and four assists in 38 Premier League appearances.

If Pereira leaves, as predicted by Le Tissier, the West Midlands club could struggle to find a replacement for the former Fenerbahce boss.

Wolves are on a downward trajectory, having failed to land a top-half spot in the Premier League since the 2021/22 season, which makes them an unattractive side to join.
