Virgil van Dijk has been shortlisted for the Premier League Player of the Season following his excellent performances this season.

The Liverpool skipper has been named one of eight contenders for the award following an exceptional individual season.

Following a heavily criticized 2022/23 season, the 32-year-old has once again proved doubters wrong and established himself as one of the best defenders in world football.

In his debut year as team captain, Van Dijk has steered the Reds to a spot in the Champions League, participating in all but two of the team’s Premier League games this season.

During his 34 appearances, he has notched two goals – one each against Sheffield United and Luton Town – and contributed to eight clean sheets.

The Dutchman will have to contend with the likes of Phil Foden, Erling Haaland, Alexander Isak, Martin Odegaard, Cole Palmer, and Declan Rice for the coveted award.
