The newly-promoted Croatian side have snapped up a former Liverpool winger.
HNK Vukovar 1991 is a professional football club based in Croatia.
Last season they won the Croatian First Football League and as a result will play their football in Croatia’s top-flight next season.
However, due to the club’s stadium not meeting requirements for the top division of Croatian football, they will play their home matches at Stadion HNK Cibalia in the town of Vinkovci.
As part of the club’s ambition to stay in the top-flight, they have announced the signing of a winger who once wore Liverpool’s shirt.
Rafael Camacho joined Liverpool’s academy at the end of the 2015/16 season following a successful trial.
He is a player who can play anywhere across the front-line but prefers to be deployed on the wing.
He was named as a substitute for the Merseyside Derby on 7th April 2018 as a late injury replacement for Alberto Moreno.
He was also named on the bench for games against Burnley and Manchester United that season.
He made his debut for Liverpool in the FA Cup third round against Wolverhampton Wanderers in January 2019.
It didn’t quite work out for the Portuguese forward at Liverpool, and he opted for a return to Sporting CP in June of 2019, as he agreed a five year contract in a deal worth £7 million.
He has again gone on to struggle, and three unsuccessful loan spells at three different clubs following that move has led to him moving on permanently once again.
Now, he has signed for HNK Vukovar, in an attempt to restart his career and get himself back on track.
With just 79 professional appearances at the age of 25, he will be looking for a home in football, and he may just find it in Croatia.
Best of luck to him.
