Wataru Endo has provided an update on his future amid links away from Liverpool.

The Japanese is one of the Liverpool players whose future at the club is uncertain this summer after reduced game time in Arne Slot’s first season.

Endo’s debut 2023/24 campaign saw him emerge as a surprise linchpin of Klopp’s midfield rebuild, starting 20 league matches and logging 1,722 minutes across all competitions.

His tenacity and tactical intelligence earned admiration, particularly during a December 2023 spell where he started nine consecutive games, including a Man-of-the-Match display against Arsenal.

This season tells a starkly different story.

Under Slot, Endo has been restricted to just 260 Premier League minutes across 20 appearances, 19 of which came as a substitute.

This dramatic reduction coincides with Ryan Gravenberch’s emergence as Slot’s preferred No.6, with the Dutchman starting all 34 league games this term.

With Japan already qualified for the 2026 World Cup, Endo faces mounting pressure to secure regular football.

At 32, the tournament likely represents his international swansong.

And clubs around Europe have taken note of his situation.

Leading the chase is Eintracht Frankfurt, with BILD reporting they’re prepared to offer Champions League football and a starting role if they secure top-four.

However, Endo would need to accept reduced wages from his current £120,000/week.

Plenty of other clubs have been linked to the midfielder, but it seems Endo’s immediate future is at Anfield.

Speaking to the media following Liverpool’s Premier League title win, the Japan international revealed that he sees himself staying at the club beyond this summer.

“I think l’ll be at Liverpool next season,” he said, when asked about his future.

“If I have the chance to play for Liverpool, would I really want to throw that away and move to another team?

I wouldn’t.”

Earlier this month, The Athletic reported that both Arne Slot and Endo are aligned for the short-term future.
