Liverpool are becoming something of a haven for Dutch footballers and coaching staff.

Even before Arne Slot’s arrival as head coach in 2024, the Reds were already building quite the collection of Netherlands stars.

With captain Virgil van Dijk comfortably the most high-profile player from the country, and Cody Gakpo an up-and-coming superstar, Liverpool boasted two of the national team’s best players.

Rewind one year, and Ryan Gravenberch could not claim to have the same importance to Oranje.

However, after a quite incredible season with Liverpool, Gravenberch is now easily on the same level.

On Friday, Liverpool claimed their fourth Dutch national team hero when Jeremie Frimpong was finally announced as their first addition of the summer transfer window.

Clearly, Frimpong is already very familiar with his trio of new teammates, and according to Gravenberch, they have all spoken together already.

Part of the appeal of having Frimpong join the Liverpool squad is because of his big personality.

The 24-year-old is clearly a very likeable character, and should have no problem settling into the culture at Anfield.

Given that Frimpong is also good friends with Florian Wirtz, who is edging ever closer to joining Liverpool, the right-back already has a number of acquaintances at the club.

Three of those play with him on the national team.

And in a TikTok interview with Dutch outlet Nos Sport, Gravenberch gave his reaction to Frimpong becoming his teammate at club level.

“He is a good friend of mine so I’m super happy that he comes to us and I’m sure he is going to be a good addition to the team,” said the 23-year-old.

Asked if he, Van Dijk and Gakpo had had a chance to speak with Frimpong, Gravenberch confirmed that they had already made the call.

“We did facetime him, yes, and I was so happy for him,” he says.

In the end he made a nice choice, so everybody is happy for him.”

During his first interview as a Liverpool player, Frimpong addressed a viral moment between him and Gravenberch while away with the national team in March.

“You alright la,” Frimpong was spotted saying as he greeted Gravenberch in a Scouse accent at the training camp.

Given a move to Liverpool was likely already in the works, the clip instantly took on a life of its own on social media.

“I didn’t know it was going to go that viral!” laughed Frimpong.

“For me, it was literally just, obviously Ryan plays for Liverpool and obviously Liverpool is Scouse, so I just did that.
