Liverpool were humbled by Everton on Wednesday night in Jurgen Klopp’s final Merseyside Derby.

The Reds really needed a win to stay in the Premier League title race, but could only deliver a limp and disappointing display.

In truth, Everton were good value for their win. Although Liverpool missed a couple of big chances – with Darwin Nunez culpable again – the scoreline didn’t flatter the Toffees.

With just four games now left of the season, the Reds must focus on regaining Champions League qualification. Klopp’s time at Anfield is in danger of really petering out.

Nevertheless, it was the first stain on his record as Liverpool boss at Goodison Park. And with the Everton fans making sure they enjoyed the moment, their manager Sean Dyche spoke about the Reds immediately after the match.

What has Sean Dyche said about Liverpool

Dyche has often proven to be a difficult manager for Klopp to get the better of. Although his record is of course overwhelmingly positive against the former Burnley boss, it’s never easy.

Last night followed that theme. And while individuals were at fault throughout the night for Liverpool, they collectively just weren’t good enough.

Nevertheless, the Reds can still cut even the most stubborn of sides to pieces and Everton were thankful to their goalkeeper Jordan Pickford on a number of occasions.

And after the game, Dyche told Sky Sports that his team were wary of Liverpool being a ‘good side.’

“Very pleased with the reaction,” began the 52-year-old. “This was a different game with the organisation and the belief in the organisation.

“They’re a good side, we know that. The commitment from us had to be there. The energy of the side and also the key moments.”

What comes next for Liverpool

After a bitterly disappointing night at Goodison Liverpool are going to have to pick themselves up quickly.

The title race may now be just about over for them, but there’s still work to do to finish the season as strongly as possible. Their form recently has been poor and playing like this their Champions League spot is in real danger.

Another tough away trip is on the horizon though, with the Reds travelling to West Ham on Saturday lunchtime.

A win there would ease the pressure of the next two games against the teams fourth and fifth in the table – Tottenham and Aston Villa.

The feelgood factor needs to return before Klopp’s big send-off vs Wolves on May 19th. Let’s lift it.
