Chelsea defender Wesley Fofana dispatched a message on social media after removing all association with the club from his Instagram account.

Fofana has struggled to make an impact at Stamford Bridge ever since his £75 million move from Leicester City three years ago.

Injuries have been the defining factor of his time in London, with the once highly promising centre-back missing 36 games last season alone.

He also suffered an ACL injury in the 2023/24 campaign, which sidelined him for a lengthy spell.

The frustration has been evident for the club, the supporters, and the player himself, and in recently Chelsea fans have called for Fofana to be sold after noticing he had deleted every Chelsea-related post from his Instagram page.

While many thought this cryptic move could be the first sign of an imminent exit, the Chelsea defender has now broken his silence.

Despite deleting his Chelsea posts, the French defender gave an update on his Instagram story, sharing multiple posts from the latest training session as the Blues prepare to face West Ham on 22 August

He also added a short message in another post to say “Focus on Friday”, suggesting his concentration is still on the club’s upcoming fixtures.

Fofana was an unused substitute in Chelsea’s goalless draw with Crystal Palace on the opening day of the season, with Enzo Maresca instead handing 19-year-old Josh Acheampong a place in the side.

His long-term future remains in doubt, however.

Football Insider recently revealed that Chelsea are open to offers for Fofana this summer, though no formal bids have been submitted.

Since joining from Leicester City in 2022, he has made only 34 appearances in all competitions, with injuries severely hampering his progress.

Time will tell whether he can work his way back into the first team or if an exit is on the cards.

While Fofana’s future is up in the air, another player appears closer to leaving in Christopher Nkunku.

Football Insider has reported that Nkunku is pushing for a move to Bayern Munich, having made it clear he wants to leave Stamford Bridge.

Maresca does not see the French forward as part of his long-term plans, and with Chelsea looking to trim their squad, a departure looks increasingly likely in the final weeks of the window.

Although Manchester United and Newcastle were previously linked, Nkunku’s preference is understood to be a return to Germany.
