West Bromwich Albion could do some summer shopping on Merseyside in what is another story in a Liverpool window that has already been full of them
Every morning seems to start with a new rumour, every afternoon with a breaking negotiation, and every evening with the latest twist in a saga that has Anfield buzzing.
The sheer volume and speed of rumours, negotiations, and official updates have made following the Reds feel like a round-the-clock commitment.
Already on Tuesday evening, we had reports from Fabrizio Romano that the Florian Wirtz was “Here We Go” done, before David Ornstein came out hours later to suggest that a verbal agreement had in fact not been agreed.
Then there is also the constant buzz around Milos Kerkez , with widespread reports also claiming that he has one foot in the door already.
But there will also be outgoings, with Caohimin Kelleher already departing the club for Brentford for a total potential deal of £18m.
And now the Athletic has reported that West Bromwich Albion are keen on signing forgotten Liverpool man Nat Phillips, with Gregg Evans reporting:
“Nat Phillips has strong interest from West Bromwich Albion and a number of other Championship clubs after his temporary spell at Derby County ended.”
Most Reds fans will remember him for the 2020/21 season when a devastating injury crisis saw Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, and Joel Matip all ruled out for extended periods.
At just 23 years old, Phillips was thrust unexpectedly into the spotlight, making 17 Premier League appearances and partnering Rhys Williams at the heart of a makeshift defence, helping the club secure a third-place finish and Champions League qualification against all odds.
Since that breakthrough campaign, Phillips has largely been defined by a series of loan spells, with no clear route back to Liverpool’s first team.
His journey has taken him across England and Scotland: he spent 2021/22 at Bournemouth (17 appearances, helping the club earn promotion to the Premier League), then split 2022/23 between Celtic (6 appearances) and Cardiff City (18 appearances, scoring once).
Most recently, Phillips joined Derby County for the 2024/25 season, where he has enjoyed a consistent run of games.
He has not featured for the Reds’ first team since an FA Cup third-round replay against Wolves in January 2023, and his future now appears firmly away from Anfield.
