There is fierce competition to sign Raheem Sterling this summer, but the latest update from the Chelsea man may be a cause for concern.

Sterling is one of a number of Chelsea players free to leave Stamford Bridge this summer, with the 30-year-old failing to impress during a 28-game loan spell at Arsenal last season.

A host of London clubs have been circling for the 82-time England international, who boasts a formidable record of 123 goals and 75 assists across 396 Premier League appearances to date.

However, could they be put off by the winger’s latest update?

The new Premier League season begins this weekend, and so, players up and down the country have been preparing themselves for the big kick-off.

By contrast, Sterling posted a selection of images to Instagram on Thursday, appearing to show him still enjoying a holiday.

The lead image was of Sterling sat on a luxury yacht, with a picturesque holiday scene in the background.

Of course, Sterling does look in good physical shape in the photo, while he has posted previous updates this summer of him training and opening the RS7 Academy — so clearly, he has been looking after himself.

However, the likes of West Ham, Fulham and Crystal Palace have all been linked with the experienced forward this summer, and may well be wondering just how sharp Sterling will be if they manage to bring him through the door.

Sterling would undoubtedly offer plenty of quality to whichever club he decides to join next.

However, after spending his entire career in England to date, could it be time for a change of scenery?

Former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson recently told Football Insider that a switch to MLS or the Saudi Pro League could be on the cards, and a move to such a market could prove incredibly lucrative for Sterling — while offering him a completely different sporting challenge.

That being said, the Kingston-born goalscorer doesn’t turn 31 until December, so there is plenty of time in the future for him to make a financially motivated move.

Sterling can still be a quality contributor in the final third at the Premier League level, and his struggles at Arsenal last season don’t seem to have put off established top-flight sides from considering him.

A last hurrah in the Premier League before a final big contract abroad might be the best gambit for Sterling — once he finishes his holiday, of course.
