Harvey Elliott looks set to leave Liverpool this summer, but the race for his signature may have just taken an unexpected turn.
Elliott joined the Reds from Fulham in 2019, registering 15 goals and 20 assists in 147 appearances for the club since and winning a host of major trophies — including two Premier League titles.
However, the 22-year-old has fallen down the pecking order at Anfield, starting just two Premier League matches, and with Liverpool signing Florian Wirtz this summer, Elliott’s chances of regular starts have taken an even bigger hit.
London rivals West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur have been among the teams most prominently linked with a move for Elliott this summer.

According to The Athletic, RB Leipzig are the latest club to make contact with Liverpool regarding Elliott.
Talks aren’t thought to be at an advanced stage yet, but there are ongoing discussions between the two clubs.

Liverpool are understood to be demanding a £40million fee plus a buyback option for Elliott, or an increased £50m fee without a buyback option.
Leipzig are on the hunt for a new attacking midfielder with Xavi Simons nearing a move to Chelsea.
Die Roten Bullen could be boosted in their negotiations with Elliott thanks to former Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp’s role as Red Bull’s head of global football.
Despite his struggles last season, Elliott’s stock remains high after he notched five goals in six appearances to fire England to a second successive Under-21 European Championship title this summer — including three goals in the semi-finals and final combined, winning the Player of the Tournament award in the process.
Spurs and West Ham will have to up their efforts if they’re to secure the playmaker’s signature before Klopp exerts his influence.

Liverpool have straight-up bullied Newcastle United in this summer transfer window, stealing Hugo Ekitike from under their noses and making a major push to sign Alexander Isak.
But the Reds aren’t done with the Magpies yet.
Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi is another player the two clubs have locked horns over, and just like last summer, Newcastle look set to miss out, with the player’s head turned elsewhere.
“Newcastle are looking to bring in a new defender,” former Premier League scout Mick Brown exclusively told Football Insider.
“I know most of their focus is on a striker with the Isak situation at the moment, but they’ve been after a centre-back since last summer when they missed out on Guehi.
“They messed about with his valuation last year and that deal fell through.
“From what I hear, that interest in Guehi is still there, but he wants the Liverpool move.
“So Newcastle have been looking at other options, including Van Hecke from Brighton.“
The signing of Guehi would be a major boost for Liverpool amid interest in Ibrahima Konate from Real Madrid, with the Frenchman entering the final year of his contract.
