West Ham could do some of their summer business on Merseyside according to reliable reporting.
It has been a busy summer so far for the Anfield club, both in terms of incomings and outgoings.
Darwin Nunez has seemingly chosen Napoli as his preferred destination, with talks ongoing around a fee in the region of €42–43 million.
Federico Chiesa, whose 14 appearances yielded little impact, is poised to return to Serie A, with AC Milan, Napoli, and Juventus all credited with interest at a valuation close to €15 million.
Meanwhile, veteran left-back Andy Robertson appears open to a move to Atletico Madrid and could even depart on a nominal fee, given his contract situation and the club’s willingness to accommodate the Scot’s wish for regular football.
But there has also been some activity on some fringe members of the first team squad.
Cult hero Nat Phillips sealed a permanent switch to West Bromwich Albion this week on a three-year deal for an undisclosed fee.
The 28-year-old made just 19 Premier League appearances across his nine years at Anfield.
And another fringe face in Tyler Morton is also candidate for sale, with West Ham now showing interest in the midfielder.
Indeed, the very reliable ExWHUEmployee (via The West Ham Way) has reported that the Hammers have been tracking Morton for a while and are likewise following his progress at the ongoing U21 European Championship.
According to the report, A central objective for both manager Graham Potter and Head of Recruitment Kyle Macaulay is to reduce the average age of the squad, with a clear strategy to focus on recruiting younger talent throughout the summer transfer window.
Morton fits the bill at 22, and it’s understood the London club are seriously examining the prospect of signing the midfielder.
His chances at Liverpool were minimal under Slot, who limited him to just five senior appearances—three in the EFL Cup and one apiece in the FA Cup and Champions League.
Morton’s campaign was further disrupted by a shoulder injury sustained against Southampton in December, necessitating surgery in February and ruling him out for several months.
The U21 England international spent 2022–23 on loan at Blackburn Rovers and 2023–24 at Hull City, gaining Championship experience that now hint at a permanent departure.
A move away from Merseyside appears timely for a player eager to kick-start his senior career elsewhere.
