West Ham United supporters will be in uproar if the club allows star midfielder Lucas Paqueta to join Aston Villa.
It has been a woeful start to the season for Graham Potter’s side, who are yet to pick up a Premier League point.
Things could be getting worse for the Hammers, with Paqueta linked with a move to Aston Villa ahead of the transfer deadline.
West Ham rejected an initial offer from the Midlands giants, but negotiations are still ongoing between the clubs, and it is thought the Brazilian is keen on the switch.
Aston Villa’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Villa Park between 2016 and 2018 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes that there would be further discontent among Hammers fans if Paqueta was allowed to leave.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted that Paqueta is a fan favourite and cannot be sold before the transfer window closes.

On Friday (29 August), Football Insider revealed that West Ham are also in talks to sell Tomas Soucek, with Everton favourites for his signature.
Wyness added that the Irons are in “a heap of trouble” and should be focusing on strengthening their squad instead of contemplating player sales.
He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: Look, they are in a heap of trouble, and certainly they’re going to have to strengthen in some way.
“There’s even been rumours of Paqueta going this week as well, and he scored a cracking goal before they got swept aside by Chelsea.
If he were to go, I think the fans would really be in uproar.”

Meanwhile, West Ham have been offered the opportunity to sign Man United goalkeeper Andre Onana on loan, sources have told Football Insider.
The Hammers have been told they can sign the 29-year-old if Ruben Amorim‘s side are able to land a new keeper signing before Monday’s transfer deadline.
West Ham have endured a dismal start to the season and are aiming to back Potter in the closing stages of the transfer window.
Despite having signed Mads Hermansen from Leicester earlier this month, the East London side are interested in further bolstering their goalkeeping ranks.
