West Ham are asking “serious questions” about Graham Potter’s position as manager after their 3-0 defeat to Tottenham, according to their former scout.

Mick Brown, who also worked as the chief scout at Man United and Sunderland and remains very well-connected at his former clubs, exclusively told Football Insider that Potter is running out of time with the Hammers fans turning on him.

The London Stadium was almost empty after just 70 minutes against Tottenham, with fans having seen enough after yet another home defeat.

West Ham supporters have been calling for Potter’s head since the start of the season, with only one win in their opening four games leaving them in 18th place.

Since the manager’s appointment in January, West Ham have won just six of his 24 games in charge and only two of those have come at the London Stadium.

Brown told Football Insider on 6 September that Potter is fighting for his job at West Ham as a result of their dismal start to the Premier League season.

The former scout, who has a wealth of experience working closely with elite-level managers including the likes of Sir Alex Ferguson and Ron Atkinson at Man United, insisted that the boss has to put together a run of results quickly.

“Serious questions are being asked of Potter now,” he told Football Insider.

“It’s the same for any team, when you’re down at the wrong end of the table and you keep on losing games, your position isn’t going to be safe.

“Especially when you’re losing them in the manner that West Ham have been losing this season, there have been some embarrassing results for them.

“Losing three of your first four games and conceding the amount they’ve been conceding, it’s difficult to see where they go from here because they’re in a tricky position.

“They got the win against Forest and looked like they might turn things round, but then it’s straight back to their old selves losing heavily against Tottenham at home.

“The fans aren’t happy, they made that clear in the stadium which was half empty before full time, and it looks like they’ve lost trust in the manager.

“When the fans start to turn, it really can be the beginning of the end if he fails to put a few results together sooner rather than later.”

West Ham fans have been unhappy with Potter and the owners for a while, with frustrations growing as the supporters grow impatient at the London Stadium.

Football Insider exclusively revealed on 28 August that West Ham are exploring alternatives to Potter as they pave the way for his potential dismissal.

A shortlist of options has already been put together behind the scenes in case they decide to pull the trigger with pressure on his position growing.

This comes as Football Insider exclusively revealed that Ipswich Town boss Kieran McKenna was spotted in the West Ham boardroom during their defeat to Spurs after being invited by the club, fuelling speculation that he is in pole position to replace Potter.

Brown told Football Insider that Jose Mourinho has opened the door to West Ham as he is keen to return to London, while Football Insider exclusively revealed West Ham have sounded out Frank Lampard after his success with Coventry City.

The owners want to be prepared for any eventuality should they decide to part ways with Potter and work has already begun towards bringing in his replacement.
