Alexander Isak's half-time fitness work caught the eye after he was told not to go down the tunnel at half time just moments after scoring his first goal for Liverpool.

The Swedish striker opened his account for the Reds three weeks after arriving at Anfield from Newcastle United for £125million.

As those looking on pondered what would happen next, ex-Liverpool star Jamie Redknapp realised Isak was told to do more sprints because he was going to be substituted.

Redknapp said: "He won't be back out for the second half.

It's going to be a lot easier doing that running after his goal!"

Redknapp was correct, as Isak was brought off at half-time for £79m man Hugo Ekitike.

This will not surprise many Liverpool fans who have kept up to date with Slot's press conferences.

The Dutchman recently admitted Isak will not be playing 90 minutes too often at present, due to the fact he barely trained with his team-mates over the summer, let alone played any pre-season.

Slot said: "Don’t expect him every single game 90 minutes on the pitch.

That’s definitely not going to happen in the upcoming weeks.

"He missed a proper pre-season, I think he missed three or four months of team sessions.

That’s all for the long-term fitness of the player.”
