Dan Burn has revealed what Alexander Isak posted in the Newcastle United players' WhatsApp group after he sealed his move to Liverpool.

The forward moved to the Reds on transfer deadline day in a deal worth £125m.

Isak had effectively gone on strike at St James’ Park in order to force through a move to Anfield.

As well as training away from the first-team squad, the Sweden international also issued a statement in the middle of the saga claiming promises made to him by the North East club had been 'broken' and 'the relationship can't continue'.

But while Newcastle’s supporters turned against Isak, Burn, who is currently away on international duty with England, has revealed there was only love for the forward in the players’ WhatsApp group.

“It’s only natural, Alex is probably one of the best three strikers in the world at the moment, and as a Newcastle fan personally, obviously, you’d love him to want to stay,” he said.

“But I know that’s football and there’s players who’ve come and gone from Newcastle before.

“Alex is my mate at the end of the day, so it was a tough situation, but I’m glad that we’re getting a good return on a player that we’ve had and he’s getting the move that he wanted.

“He put a message in the chat just saying that he was leaving and thanks for the memories, all that sort of stuff, and the lads replied.

“I think Alex is getting what he wants and now we’ve just got to focus and do what we can with the players that we’ve got.”

The saga lasted 55 days, and although Newcastle are without a win so far this season, Burn admits that the situation with Isak has brought his team-mates closer together.

He said: “It brought us closer, really.

I think it can be frustrating at times, because everything was so positive last season, so that took a little bit of a shine off.

“I’ve been in football long enough to understand that for a player, the careers are short and they’ve got things that they want to achieve.”
