Former Liverpool striker Robbie Keane has backed the club's historic pursuit of Florian Wirtz, branding the Germany international's success at Bayer Leverkusen as "incredible".
The Reds reached an agreement with Leverkusen this week to make Wirtz the most expensive player of all time at Anfield, with the fee potentially reaching £116m, should all add-ons be reached.
Wirtz, who was named Bundesliga player of the season last month, was instrumental in helping die Werkself win the German title in the 23/24 campaign as Leverkusen went an entire season without losing under then coach Xabi Alonso.

Liverpool will pay an initial £100m for Wirtz who will now undergo his medical next week before resuming an end-of-season holiday and Keane, who joined the Reds in 2008 for a fee of £20m from Tottenham, says the addition of the Germany international will only make the champions stronger.

Keane told Sky Sports: "I think he's a top player, obviously what he did in Germany under Xabi was incredible.
"He is a very good signing and I think he will be a good signing for Liverpool.
He's only going to make them stronger again, so I think Liverpool, now, they have that momentum, don't they?
"The team that they have now with Salah, Van Dijk, what a player Van Dijk is, wow!
To have him as the captain.

"So to have him stay there and Mo Salah with the goals as well and adding Wirtz now with the skill that he has, the flair that he has, he is a very clever player in the pockets, he is only going to make them stronger."
Liverpool have fended off competition from Manchester City, Bayern Munich and late interest from Real Madrid to land Wirtz, who is expected to sign a five-year deal later this month after completing a medical.
