Liverpool FC have confirmed the signing of French striker Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt, completing a transfer deal reported to be around £69 million with potential add-ons rising to £79 million. Ekitike, 23, who initially moved to Frankfurt on loan from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in early 2024, has impressed in the Bundesliga, scoring 26 goals in 64 appearances and earning a place in the Bundesliga Team of the Season for 2024-25. The France U21 international also contributed 15 goals and eight assists in his breakout Bundesliga season and helped Frankfurt reach the Europa League quarterfinals.
Having already completed his medical and agreed personal terms, Ekitike is set to join Liverpool’s pre-season tour in Hong Kong to integrate with his new teammates. He joins a revamped Liverpool squad under manager Arne Slot, following the arrivals of Jeremie Frimpong, Florian Wirtz, Milos Kerkez, and Giorgi Mamardashvili. Ekitike’s squad number will be announced later this summer.
Eintracht Frankfurt’s sporting director, Markus Krösche, praised the transfer as a significant achievement for both player and club, highlighting the ambition and opportunity Liverpool presents. Due to a contractual clause from Ekitike’s previous transfer from PSG to Frankfurt, PSG will receive 20% of the total transfer fee from this move.
Ekitike began his professional career at Stade de Reims and accumulated 33 appearances with PSG, winning a Ligue 1 title before his move to Frankfurt. His arrival at Liverpool marks a major investment as the club seeks to strengthen their attacking options ahead of the 2025-26 Premier League season.
