Liverpool Football Club's principle owner, John W.

Henry, reportedly expressed his disappointment at the news of Trent Alexander-Arnold's impending departure.

It has now been confirmed that the 26-year-old will not sign a new deal at Anfield and will instead become a free agent this summer.

Real Madrid appears to be the most-likely destination with Los Blancos growing increasingly confident of landing the Liverpool full-back, despite talks over an extension at Anfield.

Alexander-Arnold will bow out at Anfield when the curtain comes down on the Premier League season against Crystal Palace - but he will do so on a high as they will pick up the top-flight trophy.

In a report from The Athletic, it has been said that the American owner shared an embrace with Alexander-Arnold in the hours after Liverpool clinched their 20th top-flight title when they beat Tottenham Hotspur.

"You've been an amazing player for this team - and I can't thank you enough for what you've given to this club," Henry is quoted to have said.

"It's disappointing to see you go, but I wish you well for the future."

Alexander-Arnold replied: "Thank you for everything, it's been a pleasure."

The two were seen in discussion on the pitch at Anfield as the celebrations continued with supporters following Liverpool's emphatic title-clinching win over Ange Postecoglou's side last month.

And in recent weeks, in conjunction with a slump for Real Madrid, there was speculation Alexander-Arnold could follow Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah in signing a new contract.

However, he confirmed on Monday that his 20-year association with the football club will end when his contract expires.

"One hundred per cent, [staying was] a massive possibility," he said in an interview with the official club website.

"I've got full confidence in the manager and the staff and the club going forward.

"It's not about me thinking we're not going to fight for titles or fight for trophies season-in, season-out because I knew from these first few moments with the manager that he was a winner, he was aiming to go and win things.

"And you've seen that this season with the way that we've played.

"So it was never about not having confidence in that, it just boiled down to what I felt I needed, a change.

"That's something I need to do on my personal journey as a person, but also as a player and a professional, to go and challenge myself elsewhere.
