Darwin Nunez and his social media accounts have been the subject of some scrutiny this week.

Liverpool returned to their winning ways in the Premier League on Sunday with a good 4-2 win over Tottenham Hotspur.

Yet, the spotlight quickly shifted to Darwin Nunez due to his post-match actions.

There was reportedly footage that captured Nunez hurriedly heading down the tunnel after the game.

By Sunday evening, it was revealed that Nunez had deleted most, if not all, of his Instagram posts related to Liverpool FC.

Since Liverpool’s FA Cup defeat at the hands of Manchester United, there has been growing concern from fans and pundits about Nunez’s recent form while wearing the Liverpool shirt.

The Uruguayan forward has been criticized for his inefficiency in the final third, a problem that has plauged the 24-year-old since he arrived at the club.

Against Tottenham Hotspur, Nunez was afforded a cameo off the bench, and proceeded to miss another huge chance 1v1 in the dying embers of the game.

Now in his second full season at Anfield, many Liverpool supporters are left questioning when they will see the performance levels from Darwin Nunez that justified the club’s £85 million investment in him back in the summer of 2022.

Luis Suarez has already sent a classy message to Nunez about staying positive, with his former agent has also spoken in glowing terms about his ex-client.

But Nunez removing social media posts related to Liverpool FC is never a good look.

James Pearce has now revealed what the club has been saying to the Uruguayan about social media.

What did Liverpool say to Darwin Nunez and his social media usage?

Speaking on the Walk On podcast, the Athletic’s James Pearce has said that the club wants Nunez to ignore the online discourse:

“Darwin Nunez has been told numerous times by people at Liverpool to ignore that kind of thing.”

“Don’t even look at it.”

“I think especially last season, when things were tough, he was reading stuff online and it was really hurting him.” 

The Uruguayan definitely feels like a player that needs confidence to perform well, and that confidence is just missing at the moment.

Nunez’ former agent recently spoke out in support of his former client, saying:

“I would like him to believe in himself again and remember everything he went through to get to his current place, and to rely on the people who really love him with or without success, with or without money, because he will succeed again in life and become the best striker in the world.”

“Why did he miss easy chances?

Footballers are human beings and these are just periods in their careers, they must be supported.”

“Nunez can be a goalscorer wherever he plays, I hope it happens the best for the Liverpool team and its fans and the best for Darwin and his family.”
