Liverpool’s season has finally come to an end, with the Reds lifting the Premier League trophy at Anfield.

Supporters have had to wait almost a month to see Arne Slot’s side get their hands on the English championship after confirming the title in late April, with Liverpool’s squad now set for a much-needed rest this summer after a long campaign.

One player who won’t be around next season, though, is Trent Alexander-Arnold, with the defender leaving Liverpool at the end of his contract this summer with the England international expected to sign for Real Madrid.

Alexander-Arnold was brought on for Liverpool at half-time in his final appearance for the club, yet unlike last time out against Arsenal where the fullback was booed, the 26-year-old was showered with applause from the Anfield support.

And Salah’s happy reaction to the noise generated by Liverpool fans welcoming Alexander-Arnold onto the pitch showed that the change in tune from match-going supporters was a welcome one for the Egyptian international.

Indeed, Alexander-Arnold’s reputation at Liverpool has hit an all-time low since confirming his departure this summer, with supporters split on how the right-back should be treated despite his huge role in the club’s recent success under Jurgen Klopp and now Slot.

Which is why today’s Anfield reception of Alexander-Arnold was so refreshing to hear, with the Liverpool academy graduate likely to finally get the send-off he deserves after 20 years at the club and winning everything there is to win for his boyhood club.

Much has been made about the way Alexander-Arnold has gone about his exit from Liverpool, with some supporters writing off the defender’s legacy entirely despite being one of the most successful players in the club’s entire history.

Yet today’s reception at Anfield was encouraging and deserving for Alexander-Arnold, who has been one of the most important players in Liverpool’s most important and productive stars in the last eight years under Klopp and Slot.

Although Alexander-Arnold will join Madrid in what could be the best years of his career, Liverpool fans will want to give the defender the perfect send off ahead of moving to Spain in the coming days, with the 26-year-old a player who will be remembered fondly in the years to come.
