Another Liverpool legend has lifted a major trophy.
This time, it was Roberto Firmino leading the way — not in Europe, but in Asia.
On Saturday night, Firmino captained Al Ahli Saudi to a historic AFC Champions League Elite title win.
It’s the club’s first-ever continental trophy, and it came in front of over 58,000 fans in Jeddah.
It wasn’t just any final either.
Firmino didn’t just play — he dominated.
It was a reminder of the Bobby Liverpool fans grew to love.
Assists, movement, leadership.
For many supporters, it brought back memories of his best days at Anfield.
But while Liverpool fans were focused on their own title celebrations back home, Firmino made sure to show he hadn’t forgotten his roots.
And when he was asked about an old friend after the final whistle, his answer said it all.
After Al Ahli’s 2-0 win over Kawasaki Frontale in the AFC Champions League Elite final, Roberto Firmino was crowned man of the match and champion of Asia.
He assisted both goals — first Galeno’s brilliant curler in the 35th minute, then Franck Kessie’s finish just seven minutes later.
That took his assist tally to seven in 12 matches, second only to teammate Riyad Mahrez, who has eight.
This was a huge win for Al Ahli.
They beat Buriram United in the quarter-final and then knocked out local rivals Al Hilal in the semi-final to get to the final at King Abdullah Sports City.
But even with all the glory, Firmino’s mind was partly in Liverpool.
When asked about Mohamed Salah’s recent Premier League title with Liverpool, Firmino said, “I’m happy for Liverpool and for what Mohamed Salah achieved.”
He added, “I miss Mo?
I think we share a great friendship — we made beautiful history together.”
“If he’s watching me now, I’m really proud of him and our friendship.”
Liverpool fans will love to hear that.
Bobby might be shining elsewhere, but his heart clearly hasn’t left the club.
The bond between him and Salah still runs deep — and that’s something you can’t fake.
