Liverpool are intensifying their efforts to sign Alexander Isak from Newcastle United during the 2025 summer transfer window, with talks reportedly progressing well. The Swedish striker is hopeful an agreement can be reached between the two Premier League clubs.
Following the transfer of Luis Diaz to Bayern Munich, Liverpool have gained additional financial flexibility to focus on acquiring Isak. The funds from Diaz’s departure will be redirected toward completing the Isak deal, which is expected to cost well over £100 million. Newcastle have been valued at around £150 million for Isak, though Liverpool aim to negotiate this down to approximately £130 million.
Newcastle’s ability to sign a replacement striker remains pivotal. Benjamin Sesko is Newcastle's prime target, but is also strongly linked with Manchester United, with current expectations favoring a move to Old Trafford. Newcastle’s potential signing of Sesko could unlock Isak’s transfer to Liverpool.
David Ornstein from The Athletic reported Liverpool’s bid of around €80 million (£69.8 million) had been rejected by Newcastle, but progress continues, with the German outlet Christian Falk noting Liverpool’s intent to invest money from Diaz's sale directly into the Isak transfer.
These developments suggest a strategic window for Liverpool to bolster their attack, leveraging incoming transfer funds and Newcastle’s search for a replacement forward. The deal not only depends on financial negotiations but also on Newcastle resolving their striker replacement plans.
