Alexander Isak has been ripped apart for his inconsiderate actions towards the Newcastle United fanbase following his recent statement online.

After being announced in the PFA Team of the Season for 2024/25, experiencing another sensational campaign at St James’ Park, Isak chose the opportunity to open up about his situation at Newcastle.

The Sweden international notched 23 goals and six assists in the Premier League, with another four goals in the FA Cup and Carabao Cup, but quickly had his head turned by interest from Liverpool this summer.

It is no secret that Isak has been on much lower wages at Newcastle than he could be elsewhere after talks over a new contract were shelved by the Magpies, with a whole drama erupting in the North East over his future.

Now, after speaking out about “promises” made by the club, the striker has been put back in his place by pundit Don Hutchison, who reminded him of the supporters’ impact on his time at Newcastle.

Sharing an image of Isak’s response on X (19 August, Don Hutchison wrote: “So, be professional, and train, and play.

‘Promises are broken’ Isak says.

“What about the fans up in Newcastle paying top money for Isak and Newcastle shirts?” with Eddie Howe’s side kicking off the new Premier League season without their number-one striker.

Football Insider verdict

Football Insider revealed last month that Howe was being blamed for Newcastle’s transfer failings over the summer, missing out on several high-profile targets to fellow Premier League rivals.

The Magpies have now brought in Anthony Elanga, Malick Thiaw, Aaron Ramsdale, and, most recently, Jacob Ramsey, but they could not kickstart their campaign with a victory over Aston Villa.

A new striker is certainly where the current squad is lacking, with William Osula unable to prove himself and Callum Wilson leaving on a free transfer, so Isak has left the club high and dry with his actions.

It remains to be seen what the solution is for all parties, with the centre-forward clearly feeling his actions are understandable, though the club are not willing to sell him for any less than he’s worth.

Arne Slot‘s Liverpool are seriously interested in his services for the 2025/26 campaign, but with such a massive price tag on his head, any potential deal has come to a complete standstill.

That is exactly what Hutchison is talking about, with shirt sales likely to have taken a hit due to the entire transfer saga, and many supporters just wanting to move on and upwards.
