Liverpool have had some delightfully skilful players over the years, with Reds supporters spoilt for choice in picking a standout.
The likes of Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino would certainly be right up there, having both possessed incredibly quick feet.
Since Firmino’s departure in 2023, though, there has been a slight dearth of tricksters within the Liverpool squad.
But after Friday’s signing of Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen, that hole has now been filled.
Wirtz is a brilliantly skilful player who appears to take great joy in beating players with the speed of his feet and brain.
In many ways, the 22-year-old is reminiscent of his German national team colleague Jamal Musiala.
And with debate raging over who is the more skilful, Wirtz and Musiala attempted to settle it in 2024.

Now that he is theirs, Liverpool supporters will no doubt subscribe to the belief that Wirtz is the superior of these two players.
However, Musiala is an incredible talent who would also have been welcomed at Anfield.

Ultimately, the Bayern man may have inadvertently helped Liverpool to land Wirtz.
There were reportedly some concerns from Wirtz over how Vincent Kompany could fit both he and Musiala into the same team.
Nevertheless, they do play together for Germany.
And it was while away with the national team they filmed a ‘top-class football challenge’ in which they battled each other in a variety of football skills.

First comes the crossbar challenge, with Wirtz striking the bar in two out of five attempts.
With one successful try each, Wirtz leads 3-2 heading into the final round.
Unfortunately, this is where it all goes wrong for the Liverpool superstar.
With Wirtz unable to respond, the Bayern man is declared the winner by a 10-3 scoreline.
After Liverpool announced the addition of Wirtz on Friday, fans have been bursting with excitement.
But while the Reds’ social media team continue to post new pictures and videos of the former Leverkusen man, he has headed back off to recuperate before pre-season.
Wirtz and the rest of his new teammates have just over two weeks before Arne Slot gets them back to work at the Liverpool training ground.
One or two more new faces are expected before then, with Milos Kerkez set to join next week.
But although he was beaten by Musiala in this challenge, the fact he is going toe-to-toe with the Bayern man is yet more proof that Wirtz is the jewel in Liverpool’s transfer crown this summer.
