Liverpool are continuing to make strides in the transfer market after signing Jeremie Frimpong and Florian Wirtz.

The Reds had been expected to have a big summer window after winning the Premier League, and they have not disappointed so far.

Milos Kerkez is set to be added to Frimpong and Wirtz, with latest reports suggesting that Kerkez’s signing could be announced on Tuesday.

The Hungarian is another exciting addition and will arrive to bolster the left side of Liverpool‘s defence, which has looked in need of an upgrade.

But as Kerkez jets in to undergo his medical at the Liverpool training ground, it will not be the first time he has visited the facility.

Rewind almost four years, and the 21-year-old was turning out for AC Milan in a UEFA Youth League double-header against the Reds.

Kerkez’s potential has been clear to all of those who have tracked his career from a young age.

Milan recognised his talent and signed him from Hungarian second division side Gyor in February 2021.

A return to the Champions League for Milan brought participation in the UEFA Youth League and a visit to Liverpool arrived in September of the same year.

MORE LIVERPOOL STORIES

Coming up against the likes of Tyler Morton, Owen Beck and future teammate Conor Bradley, Kerkez was on the receiving end of a 1-0 loss at the Liverpool academy.

Starting at left-back, the then 17-year-old played 69 minutes on the left side of the Milan defence.

Max Woltman got the only goal of the game as Kerkez came away disappointed from what will go on to become the first of many matches on the Liverpool training pitches.

After playing away at Liverpool in September, Kerkez and his Milan teammates welcomed the Reds to the Centro Sportivo Vismara in December.

Again, Liverpool’s future left-back started, but was again taken off in the 69th minute.

Mateusz Musialowski got an early opener for the Reds, before Marco Nasti hit back with an equaliser 15 minutes from time.

And that’s the way it ended.

Kerkez gets a mention in the match report on Acmilan.com, with the Hungary international said to have been thwarted by goalkeeper Fabian Mrozek after being put through on goal.

Otherwise, it appears to have been a rather quiet couple of games for Kerkez against his future employers.

Nevertheless, given how thorough the Reds are in following up on their scouting, it is likely he has been on the radar since – or even before – his first encounter with Liverpool.
