How many people have been injured?
Dave Kitchin, of the North West Ambulance Service, confirmed that 27 people had been take to hospital for treatment following the crash.
A further 20 were treated on the scene for minor injuries.
He also confirmed that two people had sustained serious injuries.
Kitchin also said a number of people had gone to hospital off their own accord to het injuries checked.
Four people stuck under the car
Nick Searle, of Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service, explained: "We immediately mobilised three fire engines to Water Street and were in attendance in four minutes.
"On arrival, the crews were met with numerous injured people and four persons trapped under a vehicle.
Our crews rapidly lifted the vehicle, removed three adults and one child from beneath and passed them to our ambulance service colleagues."
Arrested man was the driver
Earlier today, Merseyside Police confirmed that a 53-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident.
