Liverpool’s summer spending looks set to continue as they push ahead with a blockbuster move for Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak.
The Reds have been the Premier League’s most active side in June, wrapping up three exciting transfers ahead of the start of pre-season.
Liverpool are not done yet, though, with all eyes on further additions at centre-back and centre-forward.
While Marc Guehi has become a concrete target in defence, the Reds have always had eyes for Isak as their dream option up front.
Recent reports have suggested Liverpool are preparing the ground for a July bid for Isak, with Monday’s PSR deadline set to reset the accounts in terms of transfer spend.
And as noise continues to grow louder over a record Anfield move for the Swede, Rousing The Kop asked journalist Graeme Bailey for the latest on Liverpool’s hopes of landing Isak.

Despite the addition of Florian Wirtz this summer, Liverpool are still searching for the right player to spearhead their attack.
RTK have maintained throughout the transfer window that Isak is the top target for Liverpool and according to Bailey, that is still very much the case.

“Isak has always been in play.
“Newcastle are willing to break their wage structure on a new deal for him, but Liverpool are keeping a close eye on the talks and it’s going to come to a head very soon.
There’s not much coming out from Newcastle’s end so we wait to see which way it goes.”

Bailey says that despite the obvious complexities of striking a deal with Newcastle, Liverpool believe there is a ‘chink of light’ which could still see them get their man.
“Liverpool are not being deterred, we’re not sure quite why that is, but they seem to think there’s a chink of light there,” the reporter explains.
“Whilst this new contract hasn’t been signed that will remain the case.”
The suggestion throughout the summer has always been that if Isak does sign a new contract on Tyneside, Liverpool can pretty much forget any chance of signing him.
Furthermore, there were claims that even if he does not commit, Liverpool will have to pay close to £200m for Isak.
According to Bailey, though, this is likely to be a little bit of posturing on Newcastle’s end.
The journalist says while it would cost another British record to sign the 25-year-old, a final deal could come in at a maximum of £130m.
“Obviously the British record has been broken by Liverpool now, and the offer would have to be similar to get Isak out of Newcastle, but it is distinctly possible,” Bailey claims.
“I believe a deal could be done at £120-130m, but that would have to be on the back of him rejecting a contract offer.
