Trent Alexander-Arnold has lauded Alexis Mac Allister after the Liverpool midfielder scored his first goal for the Reds this weekend in spectacular fashion against Fulham.

The Argentine international has had to wait some months to get on the scoresheet for Liverpool since arriving this summer for £35m, with Mac Allister being deployed in a deeper midfield role by Jurgen Klopp.

Yet the hunt for that first Liverpool goal came to an end on Sunday against Fulham, and Alexander-Arnold was blown away by Mac Allister’s 35-yard effort at Anfield.

Alexander-Arnold said via Liverpool’s official website: “It’s one of them.

I’m playing the game thinking there’s no way I can’t get goal of the game and I’m half thinking I could get Goal of the Month here already just going into December!

Then 20 minutes later Macca has laced one into the top bin like that.

“I’m thinking, ‘What is going on here?!’ It was an outstanding strike.

I was kind of in line with him and just seeing the shape of the ball you could see as soon as he hit it, it was a good chance [of going in].

Yeah, an outstanding strike and I’m sure there will be different angles.

“I remember turning around and me, Joel and Virg had the same reaction, we were just gobsmacked.

It was an outstanding strike and very good for him to get his goal.”

On a day where every Liverpool goal was a beauty, Mac Allister’s takes the cake for the best of the afternoon, with the strike worthy of a season award.

The power, the technique and the angle were all perfect for the former Brighton & Hove Albion man, with Mac Allister needing a goal desperately if he was to win over some of his critics.

Indeed, the goal was simply world-class, and it would be quite incredible if Mac Allister was to somehow score an even better one in the years to come at Anfield and in his career as a whole.
