Alexander Isak finally sealed his sensational move from Newcastle United to Liverpool on transfer deadline day.

The move saw the 25-year-old break the British transfer record, Liverpool’s second time this season, as well as Isak becoming the most expensive transfer deadline day deal of all time.

Isak’s transfer to Liverpool rumbled on throughout the window that saw the Swede essentially go on strike at Newcastle to force through the move.

Some pundits criticised Isak’s approach, but eventually his actions paid dividends as the Swedish international earned his move.

There is plenty of talk about how Arne Slot will set up his side now that Isak joins an attacking cohort that includes Mohamed Salah and Hugo Ekitike among others.

Coming out of the international Liverpool will play five games in 17 days due to the league phase of the Champions League starting on the week commencing September 15.

The first chance Reds fans will get to see Isak in a Liverpool shirt will be Sunday, September 14, as they travel to Lancashire to take on Burnley at 2pm.

Football Insider verdict

Slot’s men have continued their scintillating form from last season and based off of the last three league games they’re still the team to beat.

Throughout his time at Anfield, Slot has played with one centre-forward meaning there isn’t space for both Isak and Ekitike.

Ekitike might be shifted to the left-wing, but having scored three goals in four games to start his Liverpool career it would a risk to unsettle the Frenchman’s form, not to mention blocking a starting position for this season’s early unsung hero Cody Gakpo.

If Slot opted for a front two, he’d have to sacrifice one of Alexis Mac Allister or Florian Wirtz in midfield, leading to further potential squad discontent.
