Jacob Ramsey’s likely Newcastle debut date has been revealed as he closes in on a move to St James’ Park from Aston Villa.
Ramsey impressed for Aston Villa again last season, with four goals and seven assists in 45 games in all competitions despite suffering a hamstring injury that kept him out for over a month just before the turn of the year.
He has been tipped with an exit from his boyhood club this summer though, with former scout Mick Brown recently revealing that Tottenham were plotting a move to sign Ramsey, while Football Insider reported on 20 July that Nottingham Forest were also interested in Ramsey’s signature with Everton also keeping tabs on him.

Newcastle soon entered talks to sign the 24-year-old ahead of the new campaign, according to The Athletic (12 August), with no new contract signed at Villa Park despite being offered numerous extensions.
Ramsey is now set to seal move to Newcastle soon with their Premier League opening day clash against Villa just days away, and a new development has revealed when Magpies fans can first expect him to don the famous black and white stripes.
With his Tyneside switch now all but confirmed, Ramsey will have anticipated potentially making his Magpies bow against Villa in a surprising twist of fate at the very start of the new season.
The Daily Mail’s chief football reporter, Craig Hope, has instead revealed via X that the deal to take the 24-year-old to Newcastle is “very unlikely” to be finalised in time for him to line up against Villa on Saturday (16 August).

Ramsey will reportedly begin his medical tonight (14 August) and continue completing the deal tomorrow with the paperwork to be completed over the weekend.
His debut under Eddie Howe is instead likely to come against Liverpool when the Magpies face off against Arne Slot’s side on Monday, 25 August.

Football Insider exclusively revealed in May that Ramsey has been “unhappy” at Aston Villa and would be open to a move for more regular starts, and so it is proving that he could well leave the club very soon.
With his apparent unhappiness in mind, it seems like a pretty obvious move for the club to look to sell him this summer, especially given their precarious financial position and the fact he is an asset who will command a sizeable fee.

Ramsey did impress last term, but was arguably more impactful in the 2021/22 and 2022/23 seasons respectively, and he managed to start only 19 league games amid strong competition for places from Marcus Rashford and Marco Asensio, who could soon re-join the club on a permanent deal.
The lure of Champions League football is likely what attracts him to Newcastle, and the Magpies themselves need to start making more signings following a summer full of rejections, so are right to look to wrap up a move for his services as the season gets underway this week.
