Liverpool defender Jarell Quansah is all set to depart Anfield, with only the official statements from the club and Bayer Leverkusen remaining.

Bayer Leverkusen have agreed a deal to sign 22-year-old centre-back Jarell Quansah from Liverpool for an initial fee of €30 million plus up to €5 million in add-ons.

The transfer is set to be completed once England’s Under-21s finish their European Championship campaign.

A buy-back clause has been inserted into the agreement, though reports differ on its valuation – with conflicting reports citing a fee of around €40 million, while others suggest it could be as high as €60 million.

Quansah is expected to sign a contract running until 2030, tying him to the Bundesliga champions for five years.

After breaking through in 2023–24, Quansah struggled for game time under Arne Slot last season, starting just four Premier League matches and making only limited appearances.

Leverkusen views him as the successor to Jonathan Tah, who departed for Bayern Munich earlier this summer on a free transfer.

Liverpool will record the transfer proceeds as pure profit under Premier League profit and sustainability rules.

Now a report from Kicker has revealed the exact details of Jarell Quansah’s buy-back clause.

According to Stephan von Nocks reasserts that the clause is a “fixed transfer fee of more than 60 million euros”.

It is claimed that the insertion of the clause is what made the transfer possible, as Liverpool still wanted some control of the player’s future.

He adds that the buy-back is only valid from 2027, meaning that Bayer Leverkusen have his services for at least two guaranteed seasons.

The German reporter also reveals that Leverkusen are aware that if they sell back to Liverpool, it would represent basically a sort of “training compensation”:

“If the Reds really pay more than 60 million for Quansah’s homecoming, it would mean two extremely positive things for Bayer,” van Nocks explains.

“Namely, on the one hand, that he would have developed into a top player in line with Leverkusen’s expectations.”

“And on the other hand, Bayer would then collect around 30 million euros as a kind of “training compensation” for Quansah.”

“So that the profit from Quansah alone would be at least nearly enough to bring the next potential top defender to Leverkusen.”

Quansah is currently with the Young Lions at the u21 European Championship, with his move expected to be made official upon his return.
