Liverpool could be crowned Premier League champions today but fans will have to wait to see Virgil van Dijk lift the title above his head.

As long as the Reds don't lose against Tottenham they will win the league.

This would see amazing scenes at Anfield with fans expected to stay behind for some time to celebrate with the players as they're crowned champions.



However some fans might not be aware that they won't see the trophy lifted today.

But once confirmed as champions, Liverpool players and fans won't have too long wait.

Fans had hoped to see their side lift the trophy in 2020, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the eagerly anticipated lift was behind closed doors.

Jordan Henderson was the first captain in 30 years to lift the league title for the Reds, but it was inside an empty Anfield.

Five years later, once confirmed, Liverpool fans will get the moment they have craved for so long as Virgil van Dijk lifts the trophy above his head in a packed Anfield next month.

Liverpool still have four games remaining, with trips to Chelsea and Brighton either side of a home game against their nearest challengers Arsenal.

But the game fans will be looking forward to is when Crystal Palace visit Anfield on Sunday, May 25.

Following the final game of the season, the Liverpool captain will finally get his hands on the Premier League trophy.

Details of a trophy parade have yet to be confirmed.

A win or draw today will see Liverpool go level with Manchester United with 20 league titles and will be hoping to go ahead of their rivals next season.

The last time Liverpool lifted the Premier League title it sparked wild celebrations throughout the city despite restrictions being in place due to the Covid pandemic.

Liverpool lifted the Premier League title after the game against Chelsea on July 22, 2020 and following the full-time whistle thousands of fans arrived at Anfield to be near the celebrations that were going on inside an empty Anfield.

Fans set of smoke bombs, fireworks and sang as Liverpool lifted the trophy.
