It is a big summer of change at Liverpool both on and off the pitch.

The Reds have had one of the most exciting transfer windows of anyone and some of the biggest arrivals the club has ever seen will be playing at Anfield next season.

Fans will be eager to get the likes of Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong printed on the back of their shirts ready for one of the most exciting campaigns in recent memory.

However, unlike previous years, and what almost every other club has already done, Liverpool are yet to unveil their new kit ready for next season, meaning signings are being made in shirts they will never wear again.

The Reds are switching kit manufacturer from Nike to Adidas too in a change that has pleased many supporters, but they have been left rather displeased by the amount of time it is taking for the swap to occur.

Liverpool were last with Adidas back in 2012, with these kits being somewhat of a fan favourite among the fan base.

So, when the club announced that they would manufacture the kits once again next season after five years with Nike, supporters could not wait to see what they would come up with.

However, they will have to wait a little while longer because as confirmed by the Liverpool Echo, the Reds’ contract does not begin with German manufacturers until 1st August, meaning they will wear their old kit for all of their pre-season tour of Asia.

Their last game of this tour concludes on 30th July against J1 League club Yokohama F.

Marinos in Japan, with the partnership then kicking in two days later.

Therefore, Wirtz and Frimpong, as well as Milos Kerkez, could make their debuts in the old shirt against Preston on July 13th and their official squad numbers may not be confirmed until the Adidas era begins.

In the past, new shirts are often debuted on the final day of the season, but Liverpool’s deal with Nike meant they could not do this.

Signing a contract until August is a strange one too, but the club had to do this due to the effects of COVID-19.

Due to the pandemic, the 2019/20 season did not finish until 26th July, meaning the Reds had to sign a short-term extension with their kit makers at the time, New Balance, to be able to see it out.

That meant Nike’s five-year deal could not start until 1st August, hence the reason for the strange date of their expiry now.
