Fabrizio Romano has provided more updates on Pep Lijnders reported move to Manchester City.
News broke on Friday that the former Liverpool assistant is set to become Pep Guardiola’s assistant at Manchester City.
Lijnders left Liverpool alongside Jurgen Klopp after the German announced his decision to step down from his position at Anfield.
However, his spell in Austria was brief and unsuccessful.
Hired in May 2024 after years as Jürgen Klopp’s Liverpool assistant, the Dutchman initially sparked optimism with a strong start, including Champions League qualification.
However, Salzburg soon faltered, winning only 13 of 29 matches across all competitions.
A 5-0 thrashing by rivals Sturm Graz and a 4-0 Champions League defeat to Brest added to his woes, leaving the club fifth domestically.
The former Reds assistant manager is now back on the job market and was recently linked with a first-team managerial role at Norwich City, with reports circling that he was set for an interview with the Canaries.
However, that has since died down and he is now linked with a move to Manchester City.
The news of a possible move to the Etihad as an assistant coach to Pep Guardiola was first touted by Fabrizio Romano.
The Times confirmed the news, revealing that the Dutchman was set to be part of Guardiola’s backroom staff.
Romano has provided even more update on the matter, revealing that the former Liverpool coach will start work at the Etihad soon.
“Pep Lijnders will start working for Manchester City from June as he’s gonna be available for FIFA Club World Cup,” the journalist wrote on X.
