Liverpool will take on Crystal Palace in the season's annual curtain-raiser that is the Community Shield this summer.

The Premier League champions come up against the FA Cup winners at Wembley, aiming to claim the campaign’s first piece of silverware.

The Reds are involved in the ‘glorified friendly’ fixture for the first time since winning it at Manchester City's expense in 2022.

Oliver Glasner prevented a repeat of that fixture three years on after masterminding Palace's 1-0 win over Pep Guardiola's men in May.

Eberechi Eze's first-half strike was enough to seal the Eagles their first-ever major trophy and debut Community Shield appearance.

While the curtain-raiser lacks the prestige of the FA Cup, Palace will relish the prospect of winning more silverware at Wembley.

Meanwhile, for 16-time Community Shield winners Liverpool, it will provide a good indication of how their new-look team is shaping up.

Arne Slot has splashed close to £200million on upgrading his squad, with Jeremie Frimpong, Florian Wirtz, and Milos Kerez all likely to make their competitive debuts for the Reds.

The 2025/26 curtain-raiser will take place on Sunday, August 10.

It will be held at Wembley Stadium.

Kick-off time is yet to be confirmed, but last year's showpiece between the two Manchester clubs got underway at 3pm.

It is expected to be shown live on free-to-air TV in the UK on ITV 1, ITVX and STV, with coverage starting around an hour beforehand.

The 2025/26 Premier League season will start on Friday, August 15.

Liverpool, who won the title at a canter last season, begin their defence by welcoming Bournemouth at 8pm, live on talkSPORT.

Palace, meanwhile, are involved in a London derby two days later away at Stamford Bridge against Champions League outfit Chelsea.

The 25/26 Premier League season is scheduled to end on Sunday, May 24 2026, meaning it will last just over nine months.
