Liverpool will have the chance to kick next season off with silverware after confirming their place in the 2025 Community Shield.
The Reds last played in the traditional season opener in 2022, when Darwin Nunez scored in a 3-1 win over Manchester City.
And Liverpool will have the chance to add a 17th Community Shield to their collection after winning the Premier League this season.
With current holders City facing Crystal Palace in the FA Cup final on Sunday, it had felt likely that Arne Slot’s team would face another battle with Pep Guardiola and co.
But, to the football world’s surprise, Palace sneaked a 1-0 win past City to lift their first ever piece of major silverware.
And having seen Oliver Glasner’s men confirmed as their opponents in August, it has now been revealed when the 2025 Community Shield will take place.

Whether you care about the Community Shield or not, it is always nice to be involved.
Although it does not technically count towards the club’s trophy count, it can be a good way of laying down a marker for the season.

“LFC first game of next season has been confirmed,” journalist Ian Doyle wrote on X after the final whistle in the cup final.
“The Premier League champions will play FA Cup winners Crystal Palace in the Community Shield on the weekend of Saturday, August 9.”
Liverpool fans now know more or less when they’ll be playing against Palace in the curtain raiser, but they should not be booking their tickets down to London just yet.
Given that two of the last three Community Shields have been played on a Saturday, and one on a Sunday, they will have to wait for official confirmation of what the date will be.
The Premier League fixtures may play some part in determining that, with the season usually kicking off one week after the English super cup equivalent.
Before then, Liverpool will travel to Hong Kong and Japan as they look to set the tone for their Premier League title defence.
The Community Shield then provides something else to look forward to ahead of an exciting summer.
Liverpool’s last game of this season and first game of next will both be against Crystal Palace.
