Liverpool have already completed the signing of Jeremie Frimpong before the transfer window officially opens.

Neither Liverpool or Everton are competing in the expanded Club World Cup next month.

However, the expanded tournament in the United States will still affect both clubs this summer.

That is because FIFA have moved the competition from its typical place on the calendar, either February or December, to June and July.

This year's tournament begins on 14 June, with the final scheduled five weeks later on 13 July.

That start date, though, clashes with the usual transfer window opening.

Therefore, an additional window will now take place, affording clubs another ten days to do deals before the Club World Cup begins.

What is being called an exceptional registration period starts on Sunday, 1 June and ends at 7pm on Tuesday, 10 June for Premier League clubs.

The window will reopen on 16 June and run until 7pm on 1 September.

It has to start and stop again rather than remain open throughout June because it can only last for 12 weeks in total.

FIFA permits 16 weeks of the transfer window being open per year, including the four-week-long mid-season window during January.

The brief break between the two windows this summer allows deadline day to stay at the start of September instead of having to be on 24 August.

As such, they will remain aligned with the other major European leagues.

Clubs can, though, agree signings before the window starts, as Liverpool have with Bayer Leverkusen for Jeremie Frimpong.

That is also the case with the £10million offer the club accepted from Real Madrid to transfer Trent Alexander-Arnold, a deal that will conclude when the transfer window opens on 1 June.

David Moyes' Toffees are yet to dip their toe in the transfer water ahead of what's likely to be a busy summer.

Teams at the Club World Cup, including Madrid, plus Chelsea and Manchester City from the Premier League, are allowed to register players for the competition from 1 June until 10 June.

Then, if they progress to the knockout stage, there will be another chance for them to register any additional new players from 27 June to 3 July.
