Barcelona are riding high.
A national double and the Supercopa win have given fans in Catalonia plenty to celebrate.
Parades and ceremonies are taking over the weekend, with players and coaches soaking in the moment.
Behind the scenes, though, work is already underway.
Sporting director Deco isn’t expected to be in the spotlight during the festivities.
But his influence is clear.
He was the man who brought in Hansi Flick as head coach and backed the signing of Dani Olmo.
Now, with the celebrations still ongoing, Deco is focused on the next step.
One thing is obvious — Barcelona want more firepower out wide.
There’s growing concern within the club that they are too reliant on Raphinha and Lamine Yamal.
These two carry the load every week, and there’s little depth behind them.
The club’s style demands quick, direct wingers who can take on defenders and create chaos.
Right now, they only have two that fit the mold.
Deco wants more.
And they’ve already made a decision on who tops their summer wish list.
According to Relevo, Liverpool forward Luis Diaz is now Barcelona’s top target.
The Colombian winger, who is 28 years old, leads the list of options Deco is considering for the summer window.
That is, if the club can meet the financial demands and stay within La Liga’s 1:1 spending rule.
The report from the Spanish outlet said, “Liverpool’s Colombian, who turned 28 in January, is first on the list to strengthen the team… provided, as every summer, Barça maintains the 1:1 relationship and has the financial muscle to undertake a deal that will cost upwards of 80 million euros.”
“Díaz has a renewal offer from Liverpool on the table, but is still awaiting a response, to extend his contract with the Reds beyond 2027, when his contract expires.”
“Luis is ahead of Nico Williams , another player who was a target last year but ultimately opted to stay at Bilbao.”
“Right now, the priority is Díaz, but negotiating with Liverpool won’t be easy, given that they’ve already lost, and for free, one of their flagship players, Alexander-Arnold, who will join Madrid.”
“The deal, like all at this level, is complex, especially because Deco will once again depend on numbers that have never allowed him to maneuver freely.”
Diaz offers something different.
He’s more mature and experienced than Lamine.
He brings South American flair, Champions League-level intensity, goals, and assists.
In 146 games for Liverpool, he has scored 41 goals and delivered 23 assists.
Barcelona believe that kind of profile could add balance to their youthful squad.
From a Liverpool standpoint, there’s no urgency to sell.
Diaz has a renewal offer on the table and a contract that runs until 2027.
He has not yet responded.
But with Alexander-Arnold already gone to Real Madrid on a free transfer, the Reds won’t make things easy.
Transfers of this size are complicated.
Deco’s budget is limited.
Still, Barcelona have made their choice clear — if they can sign one winger, they want Luis Diaz.
