On July 1 2010, Liverpool confirmed the ill-fated appointment of Roy Hodgson, replacing Rafa Benitez as manager. Hodgson had just guided Fulham to a Europa League final, where they lost in extra-time to Atletico Madrid, and his stock was high. Steven Gerrard said his appointment was “worth the wait”, while Jamie Carragher said it had “given us all a lift”. However, Hodgson lasted just six months in charge at Anfield, with the eight signings made during his one transfer window at the club failing to take the team to the next level.

He unsurprisingly spent the second half of the season out on loan, at Nottingham Forest, before signing for Leicester City permanently in July 2011.



He joined Liverpool on a free as planned having netted 69 goals in 153 games for Standard Liege.



Jones turned out 25 more times in four more years at Anfield, including 15 in 2012-13, before leaving for Bradford City in 2015.
