Trent Alexander-Arnold faces a race to return to full fitness if he is to start against his former club Liverpool in the Champions League.

Alexander-Arnold went off injured four minutes into Real Madrid’s Champions League clash against Marseille on Tuesday.

Real Madrid signed Alexander-Arnold from Liverpool this summer, with Los Blancos paying a fee to the Reds to release the England star early from his expiring contract, so he could play in the Club World Cup.

The BBC reported that Alexander-Arnold picked up a hamstring injury against Marseille, with sources suggesting the England international looks set to miss up to six weeks of football.

TNT Sports were quick to point out that Real Madrid’s Champions League tie against Liverpool is taking place in seven weeks, meaning Alexander-Arnold may still have a chance of facing his former side.

Liverpool will no doubt have their sights set on their upcoming fixture with Atletico Madrid, as Arne Slot’s men look to build on their perfect start to the season.

Many Liverpool fans were sad to see Alexander-Arnold depart for Real Madrid in the summer, with many shocked to see the right-back leave his boyhood club.

However, in the early days of the new Premier League season, Liverpool have proven that they don’t need Alexander-Arnold to succeed.
