Monday’s transfer deadline has passed without Liverpool announcing the signing of either Alexander Isak or Marc Guehi.

The Reds had been pushing to sign both players to finalise their summer business before the 7pm cut-off.

However, despite Isak being spotted at the Liverpool training ground and Guehi reportedly passing a medical with the Reds, neither deal has been completed.

There appears to be no worries at all over Isak, with his arrival set to be announced in due course.

But it is a different story for Guehi, whose club, Crystal Palace could put a block on the transfer having failed to sign a replacement.

After the deadline passed on Monday evening, it was revealed whether Liverpool have submitted a deal sheet to the Premier League, allowing them two extra hours in which to sign Guehi.

It is often baffling and frustrating for supporters when they see their clubs push signings so close to the deadline.

There have been months in which to get things sorted, and it often seems needless to let things get so far.

Nevertheless, this is where Liverpool now find themselves with Guehi.

With no breakthrough by 7pm, journalist Mike McGrath says a deal sheet was handed in to give an extension to the potential signing.

“Deal sheet set to be submitted for the Marc Guehi move from Crystal Palace to Liverpool but the deal is in the balance,” says McGrath.

“Medical completed.

Player and Premier League champions want it to happen but out of their hands.”

The sticking point on the Guehi transfer appears to be that Palace simply do not have a replacement for their captain after seeing a move for Brighton’s Igor break down.

As a result, whether or not the move goes through now feels like it is essentially down to whatever Palace decide.

Oliver Glasner has been desperate to keep Guehi and there are some suggestions that the Austrian may even walk out should the England international be sold.

But, on the other hand, Palace stand to lose him on a free transfer if they do not bank the fee and sell him today.

It is unclear when Liverpool fans will have to wait until to know whether this deal has been completed or not, but it surely won’t be long.
