Which Premier League players are at risk of a yellow card suspension?

Rodri and Jack Grealish were shown their fifth yellow cards of the season in Manchester City’s 3-3 draw against Tottenham Hotspur, meaning they will serve one-match suspensions.

Unfortunately for Grealish, he will be unavailable for the trip to face his boyhood club, Aston Villa, on Wednesday.

They are not the only Premier League players who will miss the midweek fixtures, though as Brentford’s Christian Norgaard and Burnley’s Jordan Beyer are suspended for the same offence.

And 27 other players are walking the tightrope having been shown four yellow cards this season.

What are the rules around yellow cards and when do they refresh?

Players who collect five Premier League yellow cards in the first half of the season — the first 19 games — will be given a one-match suspension.

That ban is competition-specific, which means it has to be served in the league.

Heading into this midweek, every team has played 14 games which leaves five more games for players to avoid suspensions.

For those that have already served a one-match ban, the next milestone is 10 bookings in the first 32 league games of the Premier League season.

If a player reaches double figures for yellow cards in that time, a two-match suspension will be issued.

A three-match ban will follow for any players who accumulate 15 yellow cards throughout the season with a risk of a misconduct charge from the FA for racking up 20.

But, that hopefully will not be a problem as the league record for one season stands at 14 (held by nine players: Joao Palhinha, Etienne Capoue, Jose Holebas, Lee Cattermole, Cheick Tiote, Paul Ince, Robbie Savage, Mark Hughes and Olivier Dacourt).

As a result of the stricter punishments that were brought into effect at the beginning of the season, there are plenty of players on the verge of a suspension.

By order of club, here are all the players who have been shown four yellow cards:

There are no players currently at direct risk of the two-match ban for 10 yellow cards, but four players have been shown more than five.

And which players have already been suspended?

Including those players above, there have been 17 players that have already served a one-match ban for yellow card accumulation.
