Liverpool FC confirmed the tragic news that Diogo Jota has died aged 28 after being involved in a car crash in Zamora, Spain.
The 28-year-old married his long-term partner Rute Cardoso just 10 days ago, tying the knot in Porto, Portgual after over 13 years of dating - with Cardoso writing: "My dreams came true," on an Instagram post just three days ago.
On Thursday morning, news begun to emerge that Jota had been involved in a crash and that he and his brother were killed, which the club has confirmed.
The club had asked for privacy and that they will give no further comment than what they've already given, stating that they will support Jota's family - his wife and their three children.
Jota had met Rute Cardoso when they had been in middle school, going on to be in a relationship throughout high school as they moved from Portugal to Spain and to England together as he followed his football career.
