It has also been a busy time behind the scenes, with John Heitinga having left Slot’s coaching staff in order to become head coach at Ajax and Giovanni van Bronckhorst stepping in to replace him, while former Wales boss Rob Page and ex-Manchester United coach Simon Wiles have taken over the U21s and U18s respectively.

Another new appointment has now been announced, with Iubel set to strengthen the club’s youth ranks

The 36-year-old joins Liverpool as the new PDP individual development lead coach, which the club says will see him “act as a methodological lead on individual development plans to ensure clear alignment across the club’s senior team, loan, U21 and U18 training groups.”

The new role will see Iubel work closely with the club’s academy coaches to provide a pathway for players to head out on loan for more experience before joining the senior ranks.

A native of Brazil who holds dual citizenship along with Germany, Iubel has spent nearly the whole of his career so far in the former, having previously coached at Vasco da Gama, Ceara, Bahia, Ponte Preta, Coritiba, Juventude, Atletico Mineiro and Cuiaba.

Iubel actually spent a spell as Cuiaba’s interim boss, and led the club to the Campeonato Mato-Grossense title - the top flight of professional soccer in the state of Mato Grosso - in 2024.

He also worked as Germany’s tactical analyst at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, helping the country to a silver medal after they lost to Brazil in the final.

Iubel attended Berea College in the United States, where he studied physical education, business administration and communication, before taking in a post-graduate course in high performance soccer coaching at the Faculty of Human Kinetics in Lisbon.

Iubel is fluent in English and Portuguese, with additional knowledge of Spanish and German, which will no doubt hold him in good stead as he bgins his new role on Merseyside.

He’s not the only new addition expected for Liverpool’s backroom staff either, with Gary Probert expected to join from Ipswich as the club’s new Head of Loan Management later this month.
