For weeks, talk of a £120-130 million Liverpool bid has shadowed Newcastle’s summer, and Sunday’s friendly at Celtic Park fanned the flames when Howe sent Isak home rather than let him sit in the stands.

But amid plenty of speculation, it has been revealed that the Swede is not travelling due to injury.

Jordan Cronin of the Newcastle World has reported:

“Alexander Isak NOT in the squad for trip to Singapore.

“As reported by NewcastleWorld, striker had a scan on his thigh earlier this week.”
