Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk, Alexis Mac Allister and Florian Wirtz all earned nominations for the main prize, while Alisson Becker is shortlisted for the Yashin Trophy and Arne Slot is in contention for Coach of the Year.
But despite 34 goals and 23 assists across 52 appearances in all competitions, it wasn’t enough for the Egyptian to claim.
Predictably, Ousmane Dembélé claimed the most prestigious individual award in the game.
He had an outstanding season at PSG, contributing 43 goal involvements in 44 Ligue 1 and Champions League games, helping the club secure a historic treble including their first Champions League title.
The Liverpool No.11’s fourth-place finish marks his sixth nomination for the award and represents his highest ranking since previous fifth place finishes in 2019 and 2022
Arne Slot also lost out to treble-winner Luis Enrique for the Johan Cruyff Award while Alisson likewise was denied the Yachine Trophy by Gianluigi Donnarumma.
The Dutch manager and a Liverpool host including Alisson Becker, Virgil van Dijk, and assistant manager Sipke Hulshoff were seen arriving at the gala – but Salah was not part of that group and neither was Alexis Mac Allister.
And taking to Instagram, the Argentine then revealed that he did not attend the ceremony on Monday night due to personal reasons.
He wrote: “Won’t be able to attend the Ballon d’Or ceremony today for personal reasons, all the best to everyone, enjoy!”
Mac Allister, who is expecting his first child with partner Ailen Cova, had contributed seven goals and six assists from midfield during Liverpool’s title-winning campaign.
Liverpool are next in action against Southampton this evening in the third-round of the Carabao Cup.
Arne Slot has already dropped a big hint on his selection policy heading into the clash.
