With a year left on his Liverpool contract, Mohamed Salah’s future is set to be one of the main talking points in the summer transfer window.

While the Athletic have reported that The Reds expect the Egyptian forward to stay for at least one more reason, the news of a possible exit has refused to go away.

There is also a section of the club’s fan base that would be open to seeing him leave due to his contractual situation and the fear that his super power is dwindling, particularly with his performances in the past couple of months.

The 31-year-old has two Premier League goals since the start of last month, only one of which was from open play.

This is somewhat proof of uncharacteristic poor form for the world class forward.

Only the diminutive and injury-ravaged Diogo Jota is averaging more goals per game than the Egyptian King of all players with substantive minutes played this term.

Salah is averaging 0.89 goal contribution per game in the English Premier League, the most of any player since making his debut for Liverpool in the competition.

Since moving to Anfield, only Robert Lewandowski and Harry Kane have recorded more goal involvements than Salah of all the players plying in the top five leagues in Europe.

Salah’s goal scoring heroics is the reason he has become one of European’s finest players.

He has also created 21 big chances in the English Premier League, the highest in the division.

It is also worth mentioning Salah’s unbelievable fitness.

This is despite playing the most games.

None of Jota, Luis Díaz, Cody Gakpo, and Darwin Núñez can guarantee the two-time CAF Men’s Player of the Year output in the final third and availability.

If Liverpool were to bring in a new forward, there is also the risk of such a player needing time to settle down which might not bode well.

Despite his struggles in recent weeks, Slot will surely view Salah as the most reliable forward at Anfield presently.

Even if he could leave on a free in a year’s time, Richard Hughes must do all he can to keep him for the forthcoming season.

While Liverpool will have to let him go at some point, Arne Slot needs Mo Salah to start his reign on the right foot as Jurgen Klopp’s successor.
