Liverpool are building towards another big season in the Premier League with an impressive transfer window so far.

The Reds could easily have sat on their hands after being crowned champions last term, but have instead hit the accelerator.

Despite success in the Premier League, there were clearly still areas of improvement to be made within the Liverpool squad.

Shortcomings in certain positions played a part in them delivering a disappointing exit in the last-16 of the Champions League.

Although Liverpool were unlucky to run into eventual winners Paris Saint Germain, they were left with a nagging feeling that they should have gone further.

Next year, with a Premier League title already under his belt, Arne Slot is likely to focus on bringing a seventh European crown to Anfield.

And, as Slot lasers in on that goal, the signing of Milos Kerkez may provide an overlooked boost.

As one of the Champions League’s most successful clubs, Liverpool should always be aiming for further success on the continent.

However, for three members of the Reds’ squad, there is extra motivation for the 2026 edition.

MORE LIVERPOOL STORIES

Interestingly, the final of the competition is slated to be held in the Hungarian capital of Budapest in May of next year.

And by coincidence or not, Liverpool have been out gathering a number of players who will see that as a huge incentive for next season.

First, the jewel in the crown of Hungarian football, Dominik Szoboszlai, arrived in 2023.

Captain of his country’s national team, it would surely be an enormous honour for Szoboszlai to lead Liverpool to glory in his home country.

Then, to far less herald, Liverpool signed young goalkeeper Armin Pecsi this June.

With Vitezslav Jaros and Harvey Davies since leaving on loan, Pecsi looks set for a role as third choice next season and would thus likely be involved in a Champions League final from the bench.

And, with Kerkez now completing the trio of Hungarian Liverpudlians, it is all eyes on Budapest.

Liverpool’s defeat against PSG in last season’s round of 16 clearly irked Slot, who regularly referred back to the game for the rest of the campaign.

Next year, while the remit first and foremost will be to prove they can do it again in the Premier League, the Liverpool head coach will be desperate to rectify this.

The new signings should be enough to take the Reds to the next level, though, and a deep run in the Champions League will be evidence of that.

For the likes of Szoboszlai, Kerkez and Pecsi a final in their home country will be extra special, but you can bet that Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah and Alisson Becker will want to go all guns blazing into Europe this season, too.

Put all that together and you have a recipe that even fate will find hard to ignore.

Plenty can happen between now and then, but perhaps Liverpool fans should have one eye on flights to Budapest next spring.
