A new report from Colombia has revealed why Luis Diaz is keen on leaving Liverpool this summer.
The 28-year-old is wanted by several clubs despiteite Liverpool’s reluctance to sell him and his importance to Arne Slot last season.
The Colombian was the club’s second highest-goal scorer last season, scoring 13 times in the league after featuring severally as a striker.
However, his quality and the fact that he has just about two years left on his current deal has opened the door for interest from other clubs.
Liverpool are keen on retaining his services and have opened contract talks with him.
However, Barcelona and Bayern Munich have kept their charm offensive on the winger.
The Bavarians, in particular, have submitted two bids recently for Diaz, and are preparing a third, having seen the first two rejected by Liverpool.
It is also reported that Diaz is willing to leave Liverpool and has even agreed personal terms with Bayern ahead of a summer move.
Colombian news outlet Atena 2 has now revealed why the 28-year-old wants out of Liverpool.
According to the outlet, Diaz decision to leave Anfield is not a “sporting but a financial decison.”
The outlet alleges that the Colombian earns around £55,000 a week, a figure that is way less than what players of his caliber earn.
As a result, he is now seeking a deal with better financial reward.
“At 28 years old, his performance has been outstanding: 17 goals and eight assists in 50 matches during the last season?
However, despite his importance in the team’s setup, his salary (around £55,000 per week) is below that of other top players in Europe, which has sparked debate about his future,” Antena 2 wrote.
“This salary gap has led those around him to view a move as not only a sporting opportunity but also a financial one.
“For the Colombian, this transfer window represents more than just a move: it’s an opportunity to establish himself as one of the greats in European football, secure his financial stability, and maintain the prominence he has achieved in Europe.
Amid the interest from Bayern, it has been reported that Al-Nassr maybe be willing to pay Liverpool up to €100 for Diaz.
