Jason Cundy was having none of Jamie O’Hara’s banter live on air after Newcastle United’s disappointing result against Barcelona.
Marcus Rashford fired home a brace at St James’ Park on Thursday, 18 September, despite experiencing a slow start to life with the Spanish giants after joining on loan from Man United.
Anthony Gordon grabbed one back, and despite an incredibly dangerous display from Anthony Elanga, it was too little too late for the Magpies in their opening Champions League clash.
With Harvey Barnes missing a couple of key chances on the night, however, it did feel like Eddie Howe‘s side were missing a bold figure through the middle, especially with Nick Woltemade on the bench.
The manager will have seen multiple positives, especially during the early stages, but it was not enough for a good result.
Speaking on talkSPORT (18 September), Cundy and O’Hara debated what kind of player would have made the difference for the Magpies against Barcelona, and the latter just could not help himself.
Cundy said, “If they had Marcus Rashford in their team… Let’s be honest, they’ve got good players, but someone who can put the ball in the back of the net, like what he did with the header and the strike?“

O’Hara cheekily replied: “Isak would have been good…” to which Cundy said: “Why have you done that?
Liverpool are going to go deep in this competition.”
Isak joined Liverpool during the summer window after forcing a move away from Newcastle, leaving a sour taste in the mouths of the fans who supported him during his three-season spell at St James’ Park.
Despite starting Woltemade on the bench, Howe said: “We’re going to have to look after Nick.
It’s hard enough for him to come into a new league and you could see the physical effects he felt with Wolves.
“Then the quick turn-around again here… There’s no guarantee even by managing him that he’s going to stay fit & play all the games, but we’re going to try to give him the best chance to stay fit.”
The German international already scored on his debut against Wolves, and with 17 goals and three assists for VfB Stuttgart can make an incredible impact, but filling Isak’s shoes will be very difficult.
Supporters are excited by the early signs, especially with Isak not yet up to speed at Anfield either, and it is still very early in the 2025-26 campaign.
